2010 PCKS Kids' Census

I’m excited to be starting out on this journey as the director of children’s ministry here at PCKS. And I look forward to working together with many of you as we seek to love and serve and nurture children in our church and community. A book that has been formative in my own thinking lately is The Trellis and the Vine by Col Marshall and Tony Payne. They write:

“When planning ministry for the year ahead, there are two broad approaches we could adopt. One is to consider existing church programs (such as Sunday meetings, youth work, children’s ministry and Bible study group) and then work out how such programs can be maintained and improved. The other approach is to start with the people in your church, having no particular structures or programs in mind, and then consider who are these people God has given you, how you can help them grow in Christian maturity, and what form their gifts and opportunities might take. . . . This is a revolutionary mind-shift: when we think about our people, it moves our focus to putting them first and building ministries around them.”

Hence this survey – to help me get a sense of where we might go with children’s ministries. While I appreciate your prayerful consideration of the questions below, please don’t feel obligated to sign up for anything. God has given each of us different interests and gifts – and areas of ministry and service to match. Our purpose at PCKS is to give people opportunities to serve and grow where their gifts and passions meet the needs of our church and community (and not to further overextend the few but willing in our midst). But please do indicate your interest below if you have an inkling that you might want to find out more. I assure you that indicating interest is not signing your life away!
