A photo was sent to me on Facebook messenger several weeks back by my good friend from college. She said, "Look friend: this plant has very little soil and even less sunlight yet it is flourishing under adversity!"
Her insightful analogy stood out to me because we as Christians often thrive in times of difficulty. Thank God He sustains us - and often draws us closer to Him - during seasons of suffering.
The Lord Jesus is well acquainted with hard times, and is even called 'The Man of Sorrows' in Isaiah 53:3 (see below). Though it may seem illogical, we can thank our Heavenly Father for these times because each trial is an opportunity to become more like Jesus.
Isa. 53:3 (New International Version)
He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering and familiar with pain.Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
